About Institutional Assessment

At Sinte Gleska University, Institutional Assessment is a continuous process dedicated to improving student learning, academic quality, institutional effectiveness, and mission fulfillment. Through meaningful data collection, analysis, and evaluation, the university measures how well programs, services, and operations support student success and the Lakota values that guide the institution.

Institutional Assessment at SGU focuses on:

  • Assessment of Student Learning – evaluating student achievement of course, program, and general education learning outcomes.

  • Program Review and Improvement – using assessment findings to strengthen academic programs, curriculum, and instructional practices.

  • Institutional Effectiveness – monitoring institutional performance, strategic goals, accreditation standards, and operational effectiveness.

  • Data-Informed Decision Making – supporting planning, resource allocation, and continuous quality improvement across the university.

  • Mission and Wolakota Alignment – ensuring assessment practices reflect SGU’s commitment to Lakota identity, culture, community, and nation-building.

Institutional Assessment supports accreditation and accountability efforts by providing evidence of educational quality and continuous improvement. SGU uses assessment processes to enhance teaching, learning, student services, governance, and institutional planning while remaining grounded in its mission and the principles of Lakol Wicoh’an and Wolakota
