Bridging Tradition and Academic Excellence

The Faculty Council at Sinte Gleska University (SGU) serves as the primary representative body for the educators of the Sicangu Lakota Nation. Grounded in the university’s mission to integrate Lakota culture, language, and philosophyinto higher education, the Council acts as a vital bridge between the faculty and the administration. It is dedicated to maintaining academic excellence, advocating for faculty rights, and ensuring that the curriculum remains responsive to the needs of the tribal community

The Council plays a proactive role in shaping the institutional landscape through several key functions:

  • Academic Governance: Reviewing and recommending policies related to curriculum development and instructional standards.

  • Faculty Advocacy: Serving as a formal voice for faculty concerns, professional development, and academic freedom.

  • Cultural Integration: Ensuring that the Wolakota (way of life) remains the foundation of teaching and institutional decision-making.

  • Strategic Planning: Collaborating with SGU leadership on long-term goals to enhance student success and tribal sovereignty.
