The Assessment Committee at Sinte Gleska University (SGU) serves as the primary body for coordinating campus-wide efforts to improve student learning outcomes. Grounded in the university’s mission to provide a model for Indian-controlled education, the committee ensures that academic programs remain rigorous, relevant to the Sicangu Lakota culture, and aligned with national accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Objectives

 

The committee operates on a tiered assessment model—encompassing University, Program, and Course levels—to ensure a holistic view of institutional effectiveness.

 

 

  • Plan Execution: Carrying out the university’s comprehensive assessment plan and monitoring institutional practices.

     

  • Data Analysis: Reviewing Program Learning Outcome (PLO) findings to identify common themes and recommending actions for improvement.

     

  • Program Review: Coordinating the annual program review process to ensure all academic departments meet both tribal and workforce needs.

     

  • Policy Advocacy: Recommending policies to the Faculty Council and the Institutional Effectiveness Committee that support the work of teaching and learning.

     

  • Continuous Improvement: Ensuring that course materials and textbooks remain relevant and useful for achieving student objectives.
