OUR HISTORY
When you enter the campus of Sinte Gleska University you will be entering an area where Chief Spotted Tail walked on or traveled nearby to conduct the daily business of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe or the Sicangu Nation. The history of Sinte Gleska University draws its name from this person, who is considered one of greatest leaders of the Sicangu Nation or the Lakota people. The University did not entirely consider his stature of being a great warrior, an extraordinary diplomat or his qualifications of being an extraordinary leader to have selected his namesake to represent this higher learning institution, instead his name was selected because of what he did. He was one of the greatest advocates for requesting education to be brought to the Sicangu Nation. He understood the survival of his nation depended on changes that would radically alter the traditional status quo of the Lakota Nation. Perhaps, because of this and his move to partly centralize the traditional government process, he was assassinated.
