The Vice President for Tribal Nation Building and Community Development at Sinte Gleska University provides strategic leadership in the conception, planning, development, and administration of programs that strengthen Tribal nation-building and community development. Reporting directly to the University President, this role ensures alignment with the university’s mission while maintaining compliance with accreditation standards and applicable public and private funding regulations.

Working in close collaboration with executive leadership, the Vice President supports institutional planning, resource management, and policy development, while fostering strong relationships with Tribal, local, state, national, and international partners. This position serves as a key liaison with the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and associated communities, advancing initiatives that directly benefit the Sicangu Lakota Oyate.

The Vice President oversees a diverse portfolio of programs and initiatives, including community development efforts, Tribal land-grant programs, cultural preservation, food sovereignty, workforce and economic development, and renewable energy initiatives. Additionally, the role supports leadership development through the Scott Bordeaux Leadership Institute and helps guide strategic partnerships with organizations such as the American Indian Higher Education Consortium, American Indian College Fund, and National Congress of American Indians.

Through collaborative leadership and strategic vision, this position plays a critical role in advancing institutional growth, strengthening community impact, and upholding Sinte Gleska University’s commitment to serving the people and communities of the Sicangu Lakota Oyate.

Position:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • ​Master’s degree from an accredited institution required; doctorate preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education​

  • Minimum of seven years in administrative roles within higher education (Tribal College experience preferred).

  • Experience in student learning assessment, strategic planning, and data-informed decision-making.

  • At least four years developing Land Grant program capacities at Tribal Colleges and Universities.

  • Experience in national and/or international Tribal Colleges and Universities leadership.

  • Background in reviewing and developing new academic programs and services.

  • Proven ability to work with diverse constituencies on complex issues.

  • Experience in teaching or applied educational practices.
