About Human Resources:

The Human Resources Department at Sinte Gleska University manages the full lifecycle of employment for faculty and staff, with responsibilities ranging from recruitment and onboarding to the oversight of background checks for sensitive institutional roles. Central to its operations is the maintenance of the Personnel Policies & Procedures manual, which codifies regulations on academic freedom, anti-discrimination, and campus security. Beyond policy administration, the department manages complex benefits and compensation packages—including health support, disability, and retirement planning. Furthermore, HR facilitates vital employee support through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), frequently collaborating with the Human Services Department to provide accessible, campus-based counseling and assessment services.

These administrative functions are deeply rooted in the Wolakota philosophy, ensuring that HR practices align with the university’s broader mission of tribal sovereignty. By implementing hiring and management strategies that strengthen tribal culture and government, the department encourages staff to actively model the four Lakota virtues: Woksape (wisdom), Woohitika (bravery),

Wowacintanka (fortitude), and Wacantognaka (generosity). This integration of cultural values into professional standards ensures that the university’s workforce not only meets institutional needs but also serves as a living representation of Lakota heritage and communal strength.
