The Vice President of Academic Affairs at Sinte Gleska University serves as the institution’s chief academic leader, providing vision, direction, and oversight for all educational programs. This role ensures the quality and integrity of instruction, curriculum development, and faculty advancement while supporting research and student success initiatives. Working closely with faculty, department leaders, and the university president, the Vice President promotes academic excellence grounded in Lakota values and culture. The position also plays a vital role in maintaining accreditation standards, strengthening academic partnerships, and aligning programs with the needs and future of the Sicangu Lakota Oyate community.

Strategic Leadership & Mission

  • Mission Alignment: Directs goal setting and long-range planning to ensure all academic activities support SGU’s mission and Lakota self-determination.

  • Executive Representation: Represents the academic division on the President’s Council and collaborates on grant proposals to fuel university growth.

  • Institutional Growth: Leads the identification of new needs and objectives to expand the university’s instructional reach and impact.

Academic Excellence & Accreditation

  • Quality Control: Oversees the development of curriculum, instructional delivery systems, and innovative teaching methods tailored to SGU students.

  • Compliance & Accreditation: Ensures the university maintains national and international accreditation standards; serves as the Certification Officer and oversees Program Reviews.

  • Scholarly Promotion: Encourages action research and assesses all scholarly activities for both faculty and students.

Student Success & Support

  • Learning Assessment: Leads the methodology for assessing student learning and ensures departments are meeting the diverse needs of the student body.

  • Advising & Resources: Ensures a robust student-faculty advising program and provides administrative oversight for the university library.

  • Engagement: Communicates with all departments to develop programs that meet the specific competencies and career objectives of students.

Faculty Oversight & Development

  • Personnel Management: Facilitates the recruitment, hiring, and retention of high-quality instructional staff.

  • Performance Evaluation: Conducts classroom observations, audits course content/syllabi, and performs annual faculty evaluations.

  • Professional Growth: Leads faculty development initiatives, ensuring instructors have the tools and training needed to enhance student achievement.

Administrative Operations

  • Budget & Accountability: Holds departments responsible for their budgets and functions, ensuring fiscal responsibility alongside academic success.

  • Operational Logistics: Oversees the production of the college catalog, prepares course schedules (in collaboration with the Registrar and Dean of Students), and facilitates regular faculty and staff meetings.

  • Reporting: Completes essential documentation for the Board of Directors, grant-funding agencies, and other regulatory bodies.

Position:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • The successful candidate must, at minimum, possess a Master's degree, Doctorate preferred.

  • Familiarity with Tribal college regulations, data collection systems (e.g, IPEDs, HLC, AIMS/AKIS) and grants is

  • preferred.

  • Must have had undergraduate and/or graduate training in one or more of the programs in the academic division.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in one or more of the programs within the academic division is required.

  • Two years full-time teaching in a higher education setting.

  • Documented experience in the curriculum development, faculty development, faculty evaluation and accreditation are required.
