
The Board of Regents at Sinte Gleska University (SGU) serves as the primary governing body responsible for the university’s strategic direction and institutional integrity. Operating under the principles of Wolakota and tribal sovereignty, the Board ensures that all university functions align with the mission of serving the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (Sicangu Oyate) and honoring ancestral treaties. The Board acts as a collective unit to establish general policies, provide financial oversight, and represent the university’s interests to the public
Key Responsibilities

Policy & Governance: Formulates and interprets educational policies while establishing the general rules for the university's higher learning system.

Fiscal Oversight: Reviews, adopts, and manages the annual institutional budget and exercises legal powers to secure necessary operational funding.

Executive Leadership: Responsible for selecting the University President, supporting their leadership, and conducting regular bilingual (English/Lakota) performance evaluations.

Strategic Planning: Approves the organizational management structure and performs continuous assessments of the university’s progress toward its goals.

Institutional Advocacy: Enhances the university’s public image and assists in communicating the needs and achievements of academic programs to the community.

Expansion & Facilities: Seeks professional recommendations when deciding on the expansion of university services, buildings, or infrastructure.

Tribal Representation: The 8-member voting board is composed entirely of Rosebud Sioux Tribe members, including representatives from students, faculty, staff, and regional communities.
