Lakota Studies Survey

The Lakota Studies Department and the SGU Admin would like to thank everyone who took time to participate in our recent survey. Your voice will help us ensure that the decisions we are making as we rebuild our program are grounded in the needs of the community. We are happy to report that we had over 200 responses.

This morning, two names were randomly drawn from those who took the survey and winners of the $100 prizes are Sadie LaPointe and Sarah McCarty.

I really enjoyed my class: Native America Woman, it was quite interesting and I listen to the younger students discussions on the chapters, I don't think majority of them experiences what was said in the introduction , chapters that follows or if so they fail to see because some of them were raise in a two family home and they were mix blood [eyeska] some of them were full blood but think they are above the full blood. Unfortunately i was dropped became I failed to let them know i was present.

Lakota History and culture: was a bit of confusion where in the 2nd chapter it said Lakota's ate human flesh and had a enemy watch while they are his flesh was this before White Buffalo Calf came to them. I have always been told we came we came from Wind Cave way, way back then but this book said we were in the minnesota and missouri area and that the black hills never belong to us. I ask our teacher about this he just its written by a white man. The 2nd book was more interesting it had more information. The 3rd book : The year the stars fell , It was interesting but I think it was for our information but because he didn't really elaborate on it, but i think he should of done the one on about Rosebud ,chapter 4. As for my teacher I don't think he was prepared for our classes
he touch on some things and go one to sing songs that warriors sang in the face of danger, and he couldn't wait until the hour was up and he said I am suppose to talk a little bit for hour and close the class.
