My name is Oskate Win One Star, I am 24 years old, a single parent to a two-year old little boy, and I am an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in Rosebud, SD. I also identify as Oneida and Seneca on my mother’s side.

I received my Associate of Arts degree in August 2021. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood concentration.  I should have this program completed by August 2022.  

I'm thankful for SGU as they have provided me with assistance needed to get me to where I am now, and the meaningful impact they’ve had on my educational journey. So far it has led me to achieve my goal in getting a job as an Early Head Start teacher.

The people that I have experienced through my time attending SGU have always been encouraging and helped me in any way possible to keep me moving forward. Receiving this scholarship will help alleviate any expenses to keep moving forward, especially during this pandemic, and help me further my education.

​Teachers plant the seeds of knowledge that grow forever, and I want to make my educational journey as meaningful as possible to be the best teacher I can be. I will also be able to better provide for my son's child care and other personal needs.
