Sinte Gleska Nursing Department held their annual Pinning Ceremony on July 1, 2022. Five students were honored for their dedication and commitment to completing this strenuous course work. The Pinning Ceremony is a deep and meaningful event. Pinning started back in the Middle Ages when monks that tended the injured Crusaders were given the Maltese Cross. Later, Queen Victoria awarded Florence Nightingale a similar pin for her work during the Crimean War. She in turn, awarded her nursing students a pin as they completed their nurse training. It became symbolic of readiness and ability to go forward and join the ranks of those in the business of helping others in need. The instructors and teachers agree which students are prepared to move forward and join the nursing ranks. It is a proud moment for them to see the students succeed and reach their goals. The Pinning is also their welcome to the Nursing Profession, where the student has become the expert.
