![]() We do not have a Lakota word for “Hello” or even “Good Morning” these greetings do not exist in Lakota. A simple “Hau” for males is sufficient “Han” followed by a relative term is sufficient for females.

pidamiyaye for these lessons and teachings. I am so grateful for this site. this means more than i can say...i can pronounce most but it would be extra awesome if we could actually hear the word too so we dont say it wrong.

Hau is thought to be a borrowing from an Algonquin tribe, as the AU of Hau is the only dipthong of that type in the Lakota language.
