Like many around Turtle Island, the family of Sinte Gleska University is reflecting on the life and accomplishments of Lakota holy man, Chief Leonard Crow Dog. His time came to journey to the Spirit World on June 6, 2021. Relatives and friends from all four directions will remember Leonard’s knowledge, leadership and activism in preserving and protecting indigenous beliefs and ways, especially among the Oceti Sakowin and beyond. SGU recognized Leonard Crow Dog with an honorary doctorate degree in Humanities & Lakota Culture for his many contributions. Dr. Leonard Crow Dog will also be remembered as an educator among his many distinctions. He was serving as a member of the SGU Board of Regents at the time of his passing. The extended community of Sinte Gleska University offers its sincere respects and condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Chief Leonard Crow Dog. We know that he and our relatives in the Spirit World will continue to guide us through prayer and ceremony as we all journey through the Circle of Life. Mitakuye oyasin (all my relatives)
