The Associate of Arts degree in Special Education requires the completion of 67 semester hours of credit. This degree requires a minimum of nine credit hours of Special Education credit including a practicum in an approved educational setting. This degree does not satisfy the requirements for certification to teach; however, it serves to better prepare students to be paraprofessionals within a public school setting.

This degree partially completes the general education requirements for the dual Bachelor of Science degree in K-8 Elementary Education and K-12 Special Education. A minimum of nine credit hours of coursework in Special Education and a practicum in an approved educational setting are requirements of this degree. Students who successfully complete this degree may apply for admission to the Teacher Education program after completion of the general education requirements and by meeting other established criteria. An Associate of Arts program in Education does not satisfy the requirement for a teaching certificate.
