Join a team of dedicated rangers working to help visitors appreciate, understand, and
appropriately enjoy Devils Tower National Monument and the Black Hills. You'll expand your
personal knowledge and skills by learning about the park and sharing this information with
visitors. In this position, you will provide interpretive, orientation and safety information at the
visitor center (25%), you will learn how to design, develop and present evening programs
(5%) and rove trails (20%).
EDUCATION and RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES: Hiking trails meander for
approximately 8 miles (12.1 km) through Devils Tower National Monument. The popular 1.3
mile (2 km) paved Tower Trail circles Devils Tower itself. Other longer trails traverse tranquil
forests and meadows in the monument. Technical rock climbing is allowed in the monument.
All persons planning to climb or scramble above the boulder field are required to register
before and check in after a climb. The Northern Plains Indians believe the Devils Tower area is a sacred site. Out of reference to American Indian views, there is a voluntary climbing closure during the month of June.The town of Hulett (9 miles) provides gas and groceries, while major services are available in Sundance (30 miles ), or Spearfish,SD (50 miles). This Internship is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award.
Training opportunities include an overall seasonal training from other divisions and
communities such as local museums. Also there will be computer training, and an introduction to NPS policies and procedures.
Housing is provided. The intern will share an apartment with another intern. The apartment will have kitchen, bath, shower. Laundry services, wifi and bicycles will be available.
Weekly living allowance is $75 per week
Devils Tower is in a remote setting . It is highly recommended that the intern have
transportation of some kind.

SGU Tiwahe Glu Kini Pi and Lakota Studies will be sponsoring a Wopila Lowanpi on Thursday, December 5th in the Lakota Studies Tipi basement at 6 pm to give thanks for all the help given to the Tiwahe Glu Kini Pi program and the students and University over the last few months. TGKP and Lakota Studies will be providing the offerings and the basic meal. Other food & drink contributions are also welcome(e.g. fruit, desserts, sandwiches, juice, etc.) Please bring a pillow or blanket to sit on.
